The Long Road Home By Jenna Pizzi

The Long Road Home

Author: Jenna Pizzi

Genre: Romance, Suspense

Tour Host: Lady Amber's Tours
Caryn's Review
“Please let this have a happy ending, please let this have a happy ending, gaaaaaah!”  The Long Road Home is a gut-wrenching love story that keeps you clinging to the hope that good will triumph over evil, although with all the plot twists in this book, one is never truly certain that there will be a classic happy ending.  I begged and prayed to the plot deities that may be for everything to work out, a great indicator of how well this book can draw the reader into its intriguing depths.
Christina is the naïve daughter of a wealthy tycoon, although fortunately, she is not a spoiled rotten heiress that we are so accustom to in today’s society.  Rather, the reader finds that Christina is relatable in that she reminds one of a close friend, who is in desperate need of a wake-up call.  This need for a wake-up call occurs multiple times within the pages of this book, firstly when she encounters the dark and mysteriously handsome Logan, who has something just not quite right behind those hypnotic eyes of his.  Additionally, when she encounters Michael, one of those guys that the stars align and fireworks explode when she sees him, but comes with all of the expected hurdles that always accompany love.
To be blunt, while reading this book, I had the constant urge to smack the main character in the back of the head for some of the choices that she made.  This, however, makes the book worth reading.  Characters who do exactly as the reader hoped they would are boring, something that this book is definitely not.
I recommend this book for anyone looking for a love story that will keep you guessing and hoping for that happy ending.

Review: Suit and Fangs By Marian Tee

Amy's Review

Returning characters from Marian’s other series The Werewolf Prince and I, shows another side of the intense world she has created. The Caros, which are vampires but not, live the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Marian does a great job with not giving you too much background on the Caros but just enough to understand their way of life. Suit and Fangs is about Caylie Sonora and her obsession with Luka. Having been friends since childhood, Luka was always there for Caylie until the day he can no longer resist her and disappears from her life. The devastation hit Caylie hard, and now she wants revenge. Hurting Luka the same way he hurt her, by breaking his heart. I liked Caylie’s determination and reluctance to be able going through her seduction, it showed strength and vulnerability making her characters more human. Luka, typical male, takes his sexual frustrations out on every other female leaving Caylie hurt and insecure. Hiding a big secret, Luka thinks he’s protecting Caylie by keeping her in the dark but only putting her in more danger. The intense chemistry between them added with the “I want you but I can’t have you”, makes their make out scenes off the charts. I’m not sure what her plans are for a series with this or just a standalone but the ending was done to which it could go either way. Personally I would like to see more. Enjoy!

Review: Meant to Be By Laramie Briscoe

Amy's Review
This book took me by surprise. I have only read one other book that was about bikers or biker gangs and it was just alright for me. This one has me ready to start watching Sons of Anarchy. The hook of it was for me was understanding the depths of what a single mother would do to provide for her family. Whereas I do not condone the distribution of drugs or weapons, I think everyone hits their lowest at one point and do what they have to do to survive. Here is one of those stories where you are cheering for the bad guys knowing that they are bad. The lead female, Denise, down on her luck starts off sad and timid but boy oh boy at the end the woman has grown a huge backbone. Liam, sigh, not what you would expect. Tough and rugged but has loyalty and heart. The best part of the story is reading the growth of each character and their growing relationship. The action and mystery just add to the suspense. Nothing about this story is boring or slow. My only star deduction was that the ending was so abrupt. I look forward to reading the next one. Enjoy!

Tour Review: Maverick By Anna Cruise

Maverick Review

Maverick is a great book for a rainy day or even at the beach. It’s a light enjoyable romantic story.

I liked both Kellen and Gina. Each had a traumatic past that affected them so deeply that it caused them from finding happiness in life. Unknowingly each of them was able to help the other see past their guilt and grief to move on and open their hearts to each other. Kellen being the dog ladies’ man that he is, I had to give him respect in the fact that he never lead anyone on. Always honest and upfront, allowed me to not pass judgment for his promiscuous behavior. Gina’s sole focus was doing her job and putting a bit more effort into restoring Kellen’s image. Trying as hard as she did to keep that barrier around her heart,

Kellen had the tools to break it away.
If you’re looking for a bit of drama, romance and a HEA, than this is your story. Enjoy!

Review: Conflict Of Interest By Allyson Lindt

Amy's Review

I really enjoy Allyson's stories. Although, this one I did not like the main character, Kenzie. In Conflict of Interest, Kenzie is a all out career woman, who lives for her job. She is single, lives alone, and rarely goes out. When her sister moves in, the claws come out and Kenzie is told she is frigid and needs to get out more. From there, Kenzie decides to see if she can pick up a man and pretty much use him for sex. That is where Scott comes in, sigh, love him. Scott happens to be at the right place, wrong time, or maybe wrong place, right time. Anyway, Kenzie decides he will be her victim and the story goes from there. Both characters have issues with things in their past and family issues. The story writing is great and keeps you engaged, a real page turner. I loved Scott, he was genuine and entertaining to read about. Kenzie just rubbed me the wrong way, she was so hurtful and selfish. Their story was was what kept me reading. Even though I didn't like Kenzie, I would still recommend this book because the author was able to keep me intrigued and going with the story despite the characters. I look forward to more from Allyson :)

Allison Stafford is fourteen. As if that is not enough to deal with in itself, her parents suddenly move her from her small town in Vermont to suburban Michigan, all in the middle of her freshman year of high school. For Allison, there is more to learn at her new school than just finding her way around. Soon she is attempting to make sense of her newly discovered sexuality, and wondering what it takes to fit in with the "cool" people at her school. Despite tragedy and several mistakes, Allison manages to survive. This novel leads the reader through the murky depths of high school, and reminds us all of the importance of true friendship.
4. I don't take pictures, although I can see if I can add one eventually.
5. Tara is always in the middle of something. Right now, that "something" includes a YA novel called "How Quick Bright Things" and a fantasy novel that is nearly done but has no title. In addition to writing, she loves to read. Her favorite author of all time is Courtney Summers. She thinks you should probably read her instead! No one captures high school better.

Review: Toeing The Line (Bits & Bytes 2) By Allyson Lindt

Toeing The Line Review

Great love story, especially one that starts off as friends in high school and find love together later in life. Having 2 men as best friends is already a challenge but when you add romance into it, it can break you.

Normally general romance stories only pull a 3 star review from me, because most are so typical and it seems you’re reading the same story over and over but with different characters. Toeing the Line was different for me in the aspect that yes it was a typical love story but Allyson made the characters so likeable that you can’t help as a reader to become so involved with the outcome. I really wanted to see a happy outcome between these two characters and found myself while reading this wanting to yell “what’s wrong with you!”.

For those looking for a more realistic love story with a bit of sizzle, you’ve found it.

I really look forward to reading more from Allyson. Enjoy!

Review: Steel Lily By Megan Curd

Alice and I followed Jaxon in silence after his introduction to the dome.  The onslaught of new sights, sounds, and smells was overwhelming.
We were out of Dome Four.  I was away from having to donate steam.  I was
I laughed at the impossibility of it all.
The skyline grew in size.  The sun hung low in the sky, and the shadows of the tall buildings swallowed much of the roadway ahead.  But the darkness didn’t hold fear like it did in Dome Four.  It held promise.  Dreams.  Come morning light, anything was possible.
Information whizzed along the top of the dome in the holograms.  It was hard to look away from the blatant use of technology.  I’d never been allowed anything other than my high-end oxygen mask.  I wondered what else they had here.  Would they have computers?  Phones?  Tablets?  The possibilities were endless if they didn’t run on steam.
Thousands of questions fought for the tip of my tongue, but I had to start somewhere.  “Where are we?”

My heart is still racing from this novel! The action! The imagery! The characters! I could not put this book down, which made the old 9-5 job nearly impossible to concentrate on while I read this book. This book follows Avery Pike, an Elemental, which means a person that can manipulate one of the elements because of exposure to radiation. The world has suffered through the nuclear fallout of World War III and what is left of the United States has come together under domes that protect them from the nuclear wasteland that remains. The modern age now lives on ancient technology e.g. steam. Water is the element Avery can manipulate and create into steam, which makes her a rather important person in Dome Four, and with this power comes the ever present dangers of being taken advantage of. Avery longs for freedom from producing steam and when handsome Jaxon Pierce offers her just that, she cannot resist, even if that means jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Avery is a character to admire. She is feisty and observant. Cautious, yet fearless. Strong and flexible. Avery Pike is just one of those characters that reaffirms that women are kick-a** and do not need to rely on a man to solve their problems. Although having a handsome one vie for your affection is not too bad either. I fell in love with this character; I was cheering her on the entire time! I wanted her to succeed, I felt her pain when she encountered obstacles, I cringed at her occasional awkward moments, and I jumped for joy(this actually happened), when good things happened to her. If I could give Megan Curd a standing ovation for this character alone, I would, in a heartbeat!  This book was an adventure. To be completely honest, I would love to see this book as a movie, which is something I very rarely say. Steel Lily is such a vivid journey, with immense detail and beautifully constructed characters, that no director in Hollywood could screw this story up.
Please read this book. I could not recommend it more. Did you see all my exclamation points?

Review: Blood Rule By Heather Hildenbrand

Blood Rule
By Heather Hildenbrand
The Dirty Blood Series, #4
Accendo Press - August 2013
YA Paranormal Romance

My Review

Shocking, gripping, intense, dark are just the beginning of words I would use to describe Blood Rule. The tone and setting of this book is so different from the previous books in this series. I almost had to check to make sure I was reading the right book. What I like most about Heather as a writer is she can completely blow me away with her style change. Growing more and more with her creativity of the characters she creates in any story, she never leaves me disappointed. Now all you team Wes fans…boo…will be completely happy reading this because you get a lot of Tara and Wes. Us team Alex..sigh… well he makes his appearance which happens to be too brief but I hold an enormous amount of hope that he will be huge in the next book. Due to the large amount of the dark and depressing atmosphere in Blood Rule, Heather did a great job bringing in some comic relief here and there with George, Logan, Astor, and Victoria.
Heather gives you no idea on where or how this will plan out. I usually walk away after reading her stories, with a sense of completion and contentment. Blood Rule blew that out of the water completely. I cannot in good conscience as a reviewer give you any details of the story. You need a complete blank and have no pre-sense of what is going to happen while reading this. The build-up is the best part while reading Blood Rule. I think a lot of her readers will be shocked and surprised reading it due to the dark nature of the book. I think it’s a great beginning for the final show down between Tara and Steepe. Enjoy!

Title: Death Dealer

Author: Ashley Robertson

Genre: Adult Paranormal

Giveaway Here!

Amy's Review:

There are very few novellas I will read and actually enjoy. I can honestly count on one finger how many there are. I might have to start using my other hand so I can add this one to it. In the beginning of Death Dealer, I was worried because there seemed to be a lot of back story to go along with the current story. Since novellas are generally 100 pages or less, would Ashley be able to bring the past and the current times together to understand the characters and what was going on. Well, she did it and did it brilliantly so that I wanted it to be so much longer. This paranormal fantasy is so intriguing and exciting all in one. For me, the ending was worth it. Ugh, I love hot endings... makes it so much better and the anticipation was built perfectly. Deacon is one of those characters that has the hard bad ass exterior but the soul and heart of a man that we all long for. Mia, such a strong female lead and determination that we can all admire. Both characters are driven for revenge but ultimately will that drive cost them each other. Written with true meaning and a underlying message that we all can learn from. I look forward to the next installment. Enjoy!

“I may have had more lovers than you, and I may take my clothes off for countless women, but you are the only one who can strip me bare.”
Do you ever stop loving someone just because they’re gone? Five years ago Ryan Pierce disappeared from Alana Remington’s life without leaving so much as a post-it note behind. He was the one she gave her heart to, her soul to and her virginity to.  So imagine her surprise when she finds him dancing at one of NYC’s hottest male reviews as Jack the Stripper.
Ryan never stopped loving Alana, and now that she serendipitously dropped back into his life, he’s vowed never to lose her again.  But being together has its costs, and challenges Alana isn’t sure she can handle.
She finally has Ryan back; but how in the world is she supposed to share the love of her life with half of the women in New York City?

(All excerpts are unedited and subject to change)
“Nothing’s wrong,” I try to pull his lips back to mine, but his head won’t budge. He just stares down at me with a forceful glare.
Resigned, I ball my fists over my eyes and sigh. “What do you want me to tell you? I’m insecure? I’m trying not to think of all the women you have all over you? Or of all the women you’ve had?”
“You’ve been with other people?”
“One other person Ryan. One other person besides you, and it was a disaster. I don’t even think it counts.”
“What do you mean?” he asks confused.
We never did dredge up my intimacy issues or talk about my sexual past, if you could even call it that. One boy my sophomore year of college, the all around nice guy I could never pull the trigger with. Even though I tried, desperately. I couldn’t muster up enough courage to go through with it. I was so messed up after Ryan; I had trouble letting anyone in.
Sexually that is.
We’d start but never finish.  And the one time it got to the point of penetration I absolutely freaked. We stopped speaking after that and I’ve sworn off men ever since.
“Intimacy was hard for me,” I tell him, “because I was always afraid I’d wake up, and who ever I spent the night with would be gone. I didn’t want to hurt like that again,” I look away from him. This conversation sucks. I don’t want to look weak. It’s a character flaw imbedded by my father. Remington’s aren’t weak. They don’t show emotion. They don’t even have emotions.
I’m not a very good Remington.
“Alana,” he coos, and I want to slap him. Maybe kiss him, “I didn’t know.”
“I didn’t want you to know.”
“You have to talk to me.”
“Talking isn’t my problem, Ryan.”
Thinking is.
“You didn’t tell me,” he stipulates, “Do you really think I’m not going to be here in the morning?”
I shrug, because for all intents and purposes I do believe he’ll be here tomorrow, but there’s still a hurt, eighteen year old girl inside me who needs to come to terms with what happened. That Ryan didn’t leave because he wanted to. He made a choice that affected more than just us. And it hurt us both equally the same.
“I don’t want to disappoint you,” I mumble, and now I’m beat red. I’m pretty sure when Emily told me to vulnerable in Ryan’s arms, she didn’t mean like this.
“Alana, you could never disappoint me,” he shifts while still on top of me, “I may have had more lovers than you, and I may take my clothes off for countless women, but you are the only one who can strip me bare.”
