Review: By Virtue Fall (A Song of the Shadowdance) By Mark Wooden

Synopsis:

During the French Revolution, twenty-something noblewoman Adriana Dupré was turned into a vampire and an assassin by the Daughters of Lilith. Adriana broke from their cult, only to learn the Daughters had also turned her younger sister, Dominique, into one of them and set her against Adriana.
In the modern era, Dwyer Strathan, a sorcerer posing as a Hollywood bad boy, acquires information that will end Adriana’s bloody and ineffectual campaign against the Daughters. He will give this to her if she retrieves three Vyntari shards, part of a set of artifacts that control a being of immense, dark power known as the Shadow God.
Adriana travels to Berlin for the shards. She encounters the Knights of Vyntari and other supernatural opponents. If she can outwit them all, she can save her sister — if Strathan’s information is true. But is Dominique’s redemption worth putting Strathan on the path to enslaving the world?

Lauren's Review:

The introduction of characters in this fast paced ebook is intriguing. The author places you right in the heat of the moment during an epic fight or a violent slaying and presents you with not only a graphic scene but also who you will be following in that chapter. This page turner (so to speak) will keep you glued to your kindle first wondering where vampire and former assassin, Adriana, will take you. From Los Angeles to Berlin she is kicking ass and leading you on her path of vengeance. Then your riding in a van with two Knights of Vyntari chasing Adriana, charged with protecting the sacred shards she's Hell bent on retrieving. What a rush!

I give this well researched, action packed, and original ebook a 4 out of 5 stars. There are spelling issues and grammatical errors I came across. I didn't find that they hindered the progression of my interest in the story but they were a little distracting. Other than that very minor complaint I truly enjoyed reading By Virtue Fall! This author has a wonderful imagination and I like the way he mixed historical fiction into his modern day setting making his writing style unique for this genre.

Author Bio – Mark Wooden

The son of a sharecropper (not really), Mark Wooden has actively pursued the dream of being a Creative since his epic kindergarten work, "Ne-Ne the Vampire Panda.” He draws inspiration from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Blade, decades of Batman and X-Men comic books and conspiracy epics 24 and The X-Files. He'd be remiss if he didn't mention the influence of a certain Frank Miller-created assassin named Elektra.   Mark mines his two decades of experiences in live entertainment to instill humanity into the vampires, demons, werewolves, sorcerers and other creatures of his “Shadowdance” urban fantasy saga. The novels allow readers to confront the evil that men and monsters do from the comfort of a book.

“By Virtue Fall: A Song of the Shadowdance" is the first novel in the "Shadowdance" saga.
